Amazingly, Thomas Edison was not the first person to have experimented successfully with creating artificial lighting or the lighting ballast equipment that was created shortly after his invention. The first person to have been successful with the creation of a light bulb was an English chemist by the name of Humphry Davy who connected a few wires to a battery and then used a charcoal strip to connect the other ends of the wires. When charged, the device would make carbon glow and was the first example of an arc lamp and was created almost seventy years before Edison's device.
