Just like the close of the Second World War ushered in a large increase in the number of babies born when soldiers returned home from fighting, those so-called baby boomers likewise had children of their own in what many genealogists call "echo boomers" because of the spike in births in the late 1970s and early 1980s. Just like the large population of Baby Boomers who have lately put a strain on the faltering retirement system in the United States it's expected that in a few decades the eco boomers will also start to increase the strain on the system.
